Baby Basics. Toy bag. (large)

We use these bags to give out toys in. We also use them for Clothes and Equipment.

The most useful style of bag is wide and with shopping bag handles. This makes them easier to pack. It is also much more useful as a toy bag once in the child’s home. You can make them out of most fabrics. I mostly use donated curtains and Bedding.

I have made another tutorial for small toy bags using jeans. This size is also useful as we give out books, small loose toys and craft materials in them.

Drawstring bags are also useful for toys and dressing up clothes.

When finished the ideal bag size is 50cm x 50cm ( The bag I made for this tutorial was slightly longer as I was using new fabric and didn’t want to waste any)

Cut out 2 pieces of fabric ( or 1 larger piece folded in half – please adjust tutorial for direction you have cut 1 large piece)

2 x pieces 52 cm wide x 55 cm This includes a 1 cm seam allowance

Sew sides and bottom.

I have not overlocked the top of this bag as i used the selvage edge of the fabric. but normally I would overlock the top edge of the bag.

Fold over the top 3cm.

These are my bag handles. they are made using strips of fabric. You can also use fabric tape or wide ribbon.

Fold the bag along the length so that the center of the bag is nearest you.

Pin 1 end of a handle tucking it under the 3cm fold

turn the fabric over and pin the other end of the same handle under this side of the 3cm fold. This makes sure your handles are equal. ( I forgot to take a picture)

Unfold your bag and turn over so that you can pin the second handle to match the first.

Sew all the way round the top of the bag ensuring you have sewn over the end of each of the bag handles.

Turn out and finished.
